Happy Retirement, Diez!

This spring, Clinton officially retired Diez from traveling on the road with him to take part in tours and expos. The 18-year-old Quarter Horse gelding is now enjoying life just being a horse turned out in the pastures at the ranch. Currently, he’s turned out with the broodmares and foals … a great role model for the youngsters to look up to!

Diez has been by Clinton’s side since Clinton purchased him as a yearling at the 2001 NRHA Futurity Sale. “It’s always amazed me how popular Mindy and Diez are with horsemen. They quickly became more recognizable than me and even are to this day. I think it’s because people can identify with them more than they can with me,” Clinton says.

The decision to retire Diez was an emotional but easy decision for Clinton. “Diez has put in thousands of hours helping me teach the Method and perform at tours. He doesn’t owe me or anyone else anything more. He’s a special horse, and I am lucky that our paths crossed,” Clinton says.

We know that Diez holds a special place in your hearts as well, and we’d love to hear about any special memories you have of him! Do you remember the first time you saw him perform with Clinton? Did you get to meet him? Did he help you achieve an “aha moment” with your horse? Tell us all about it! Email your memories and any high-resolution photos you have to [email protected].
